QUEEN SWORD

Capt Sir Tom Moore knighted in ‘unique’ ceremony

This piece was inspired by the sword that Queen Eleizabeth used to give royalty to Tom Moore – a World War II veteran who, at 99, said that if people donated money to the public health sector for their nation, United Kingdom, he would go around the yard 100 times. Despite her age, the queen managed to carry and then wield a lightweight, ceremonial sword her father, George VI, wore as Colonel of the Scots Guards in the 1930s.
“Thank you very much,” Moore, who fundraised some $42 million for the UK’s national health system, told the queen after the ceremony, according to Reuters

This charming story is also honored in this piece.
